Get Physical
Whether it’s a walk by the beach, or a hike in the country, physical activities can give you a chance to show off your playful side in a way that won’t come out over dinner and a movie. If fitness is something you’re both into, hit the gym together for a great workout, go for a run in the park, or play a game of catch. For those of you who lean on the more adventurous side, try indoor rock climbing, check out your local ice rink, or go rollerblading in the sun. Even if you’re the furthest thing from an Olympian, you’ll still have a blast challenging one another.
Community Theater
Chances are there’s at least one small theater near you that’s performing quality shows. Rather than checking out the latest blockbuster, give your local theater a shot and make a date for a live stage show instead. From jazz concerts and symphonies, to productions of well-loved musicals and original plays, small town theaters can be big fun. Entrance is usually inexpensive and some performances are even free. And if it’s horrible? You’ll have memories to laugh about later.
Have a Picnic
Get away from crowded restaurants and waiters who always pop up at the wrong moment. Grab a blanket, pack a basket with your favorite foods, then head to the beach, park, or even your own back yard for a date under the open skies. Want to make your time together even cozier? Wait for nightfall and have a picnic by electric candlelight (no open flames, please). The intimate stargazing is sure hit that romantic sweet spot.
Make Dinner Together
Remember, it’s the journey, not the destination that matters. The process of making something as a couple can be more enjoyable than the end result—and more cost effective as well. From the shopping and set up to the prep and clean up, make each step a joint effort and see how the evening unfolds.
Hit a Museum or Gallery
It doesn’t cost a thing to browse through an art gallery and many museums offer reduced or free admission during certain times; check your bank to see if they offer discounts with any local venues. Viewing works of art together can make for excellent conversation between you and your date, and in some cases may even be educational as well.
